Gear motor clockwise

A clockwise gear motor, designated as CW, turns the shaft clockwise and is used in pellet stoves where the auger must rotate in that direction to feed the wood pellets to the burn pot. It is the most common direction among universal gear motors, but speed, shaft and voltage must match just like the direction.

The range extends from 1 to 5.6 revolutions per minute with a solid shaft of 8.5 or 9.5 mm or a hollow shaft, at 230 or 24 V and with or without an encoder.

How to find the direction of rotation

The safest option is the label on the old motor, where the direction is typically stated as CW for clockwise or CCW for counterclockwise. The direction is normally indicated when viewed directly towards the shaft, so a motor that turns clockwise when viewed from the end of the shaft is a CW motor.

If the old motor still works, the direction can also be seen while it is running before it is removed. If the label is missing and the motor is stationary, it is safer to choose by brand and model among all gear motors, where the direction is already specified. If your motor turns the other way, it can be found among gear motors counterclockwise.

The direction is only one of the parameters

Speed, shaft and voltage must match the old motor, and an incorrect value in just one area results in incorrect dispensing, a motor that does not fit, or a motor that burns out. If the stove uses an encoder, the new one must also be a gear motor with encoder, otherwise the stove goes into alarm. The gear motor is only one of the motors in the pellet stove, so if the problem concerns smoke or heat distribution, the fault is elsewhere.
